National-level javelin thrower dies in Delhi accident

Two people, including a national-level javelin thrower, died while another national-level athlete and a motorbike rider were injured in a road accident here Thursday, police said.

The accident took place 2.15 p.m. in Mandir Marg area in New Delhi.

Abhishek, a 20-year-old javelin thrower, and vehicle driver Jasvinder, 60, were killed.

Brijesh, another 20-year-old hammer thrower, and motorbike rider Hemant suffered injuries and were admitted at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

"Abhishek and Brijesh, both students of a government college in Bhiwani, Haryana, were travelling in the hired vehicle when the accident took place," said a police officer.

The vehicle was heading towards Karol Bagh area in west Delhi when it was hit by a tanker from behind and it collided head-on with a Haryana Roadways bus, the officer said.
