In what is evolving as a long-awaited endeavour, the National Book Trust (NBT) has begun the process for publishing books for visually impaired readers in Braille and in the digital format.

Speaking on the significance of books in Digital Age at the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) of the HP University, NBT Chairman Baldev Bhai Sharma said that a special project has been initiated to offer books to the huge chunk of population that is unable to read printed text.

He said that NBT has already published over 100 e-books and four books in Braille. The NBT Chairman also impressed upon the fact that the new copyright rules have made such endeavours more easier.

The Chairman also added that it was a binding responsibility of the teaching fraternity to promote reading among the tech-savvy younger generation.
