Nearly 3.9 crore new voters have been added to the list across the country, Election Commission said Friday.

Of this, more than 1.27 crore are in the age group of 18-19 years, EC director general Akshay Raut told reporters.

The addition has been made in a revision done over the past three months, and the figures are likely to increase further by the time the final electoral list for the general elections are prepared.

Raut was meeting the media ahead of the National Voters' Day, to be celebrated Saturday.

In 2013, 2.32 crore new voters were added to the list ahead of the National Voters' Day, of which 93 lakh were in the age category of 18-19 years.

In 2012, the figure was 3.83 new voters, with 1.09 crore being in that particular group.

The EC member also said the increasing voting percentage is an "encouraging" trend.

"Ink on finger has become a matter of pride. The states with low voting percentage are now in moderate category, and those in moderate category have moved to the higher voting percentage category. This is encouraging," Raut said.
