Cash amounting to nearly Rs 50 lakh, of which almost a third was in new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes, was seized here from two separate parties on Thursday, police said.
In the first case, police seized Rs 40 lakh from a van on Gurugram-Faridabad toll plaza and rounded up two persons.
The two claimed that they were employees of a security firm based in Udyog Vihar area and the money belonged to the company.
According to police, an amount of over Rs 24 lakh was in the Rs 2,000 notes, around and 79 notes are Rs 40,000 in Rs 500 notes and rest in existing small denomination notes.
In another case, Rs 9.50 lakh in new currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 were seized from three men in a car during checking near Jamalpur Chowk on Gurugram-Pataudi road.
"In both cases, the men carrying cash failed to give a satisfactory answer following which the amount was seized," said police spokesperson Umesh Kumar.

"The Income Tax Department has been informed," he said, adding a FIR will be lodged after investigation.
Till now, the Gurugram police have seized Rs 1.49 crore during the past fortnight, but only one FIR was lodged against two persons, including a private bank official and no arrests were made so far.
