Following their loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, Manchester City head coach Manuel Pellegrini has said neither team deserved to win as both the first and second leg matches were even contests with defenders dominating strikers.

Real Madrid defeated City 1-0 in the second leg here on Wednesday and will now face Atletico Madrid, who earlier defeated Bayern Munich, in summit clash in Milan on May 28.

"I'm not happy because we couldn't create chances. We didn't deserve to lose because both teams were very similar. We were missing David Silva and Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure was coming back from an injury," Pellegrini was quoted as saying by uefa.com after the match on Wednesday.

"Neither team deserved to win; there was a good work from both teams and little football. Both matches were very even. Defences won over forwards."

The City coach also termed Real Madrid as a fortunate side.

"We feel a very bitter taste. We didn't deserve to lose. They had a lot of fortune with their goal. Neither of the teams created much. We weren't clear enough in our ideas and they didn't allow us to create chances. The fair result would have been a draw. Madrid were fortunate," he said.

"Of course, if you don't play a final you have missed a chance. We played against a strong team but they weren't better than us. We needed a little luck but we didn't get it. We tried but we couldn't do it. I don't think Real Madrid proved they're superior to City," Pellegrini said.
