Nepal's 33-party alliance led by the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) has decided to protest the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly which is slated for Jan 22, the alliance said Friday.

The 33-party alliance had boycotted the Nov 19 Constituent Assembly elections, saying that it was impossible for the Constituent Assembly to draft a new constitution.

A meeting of 33 parties also decided to protest in front of the Constituent Assembly building Jan 22 which is likely to create tensions in Nepal's capital, Xinhua reported.

"We have decided to protest with black flags and banners in front of the CA building on Jan 22," Dev Gurung, CPN-M secretary, said in a press statement.

The alliance said the Constituent Assembly-2 is against "national independence" and it should be boycotted by the people.

The alliance also demanded a roundtable conference for drafting a new constitution, something which major parties represented in the Constituent Assembly disagree with.
