The new Mayor of Agra on Tuesday pledged to do everything to change the profile of the Taj Mahal city.
Navin Jain of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said this after taking oath of office as Mayor at a well-attended function on the Agra College ground in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.
Besides Jain, 100 corporators were also administered the oath of office.
Jain said he would also try to resolve Agra's long-pending problems including speeding up of the Gangajal project.
As the river Yamuna has gone dry, water will be brought through a pipeline from a canal of the Ganges in Bulandshahar district, he said.
The 17th century Taj Mahal, India's biggest tourist draw, is the main attraction in Agra and gets thousands of visitors daily. But most tourists complain that Agra is notorious for dirt and filth.
