A three-and-a-half-year-old boy, the son of a librarian with an English-language newspaper here, was Thursday stabbed to death, and the man's wife and daughter were critically injured after being attacked in their house, police said.

The woman who attacked the family also died of presumably self-inflicted wounds, police said adding that her body was recovered from the scene of crime.

Reena, the wife of Manoj, a builder, reportedly entered the Moti Nagar house of the librarian in west Delhi around 2 p.m. with a knife, and attacked the family.

"Librarian Anil Sharma's wife, Sudesh, 36, and his 17-year-old daughter Komal received critical injuries," the police said. Arav, the toddler, died.

Reena Taneja, 44, also inflicted injuries on herself in the process, a police officer said.

Hearing the screams of Komal, neighbours informed police.

By the time the policemen arrived at the spot, the toddler had died. Police are still to ascertain the motive of the crime.

"Sudesh and Komal were admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are battling for their lives," the officer said.

Sharma works as a librarian with The Pioneer newspaper here, and was not at home at the time of the attack. His wife Sudesh is a nurse with Delhi government's Acharya Shree Bhikshu Government Hospital.
