A voluntary organisation in Ghaziabad has sought action against the municipal commissioner, and the health and horticulture officers for burning waste in the open in violation of the National Green Tribunal's orders.

The three officials against whom the NGO has sought action are Ghaziabad Municipal Commissioner Abdul Samad, chief health officer R.K. Yadav and officer in charge of horticulture Satyendra Tiwari.

The complaint has been filed by Society for the Protection of Environment and Biodiversity (SPENBIO) with Ghaziabad divisional forest officer (DFO) Joga Singh.

Vikrant Tongar, a trustee of the NGO, said the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered not to burn waste in open spaces but the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is blatantly flouting the direction.

"The hazardous waste is being burnt openly round the clock which has completely burnt several hundred trees in the green belt and it is the direct responsibility of the DFO to protect the trees," Tongar said in his complaint.

"An investigation is underway and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty," Ghaziabad forest officer Joga Singh said.
