Singer Nicole Scherzinger is going through "a very transformative time" in her life following her split from reigning Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.

The "Don't hold your breath" hitmaker, who split from Hamilton in February after seven years together, believes they will eventually reunite if they are truly meant to be together, but she is currently trying to focus on herself.

"I think it's hard. I think sometimes people stay in relationships because they get complacent, because it's comfortable for them, because they don't want to be alone. For me, what's helped me to get through this is I'm quite a spiritual person. It has grounded me and I realise I do have a great purpose in life.

"If relationships or people in your life are meant to be, then they will come back around, but that shouldn't be what is holding you back from your ultimate destiny," she told people.com.

Asked if she has any advice for getting through a breakup, she said: "Focus on yourself. Because a lot of the times when you're in a relationship, you lose yourself and you lose who you are are, what makes you so special in your own light.

"You are always putting the energy on someone else. Build yourself back up again. Do what you want to do."

The 36-year-old beauty's heartbreak has inspired a lot of her new music.

She said: "Now it's a new chapter in my life, I'm going through a very transformative time in my life in relationships, so I think there is a lot to be said and sung about that. I think people can relate to that in a real way, when you go through, like, the desert and then walking towards something new."

While Scherzinger is still single, Hamilton, 30, is currently on holiday in Monaco, France with models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
