Nigerian national held for staying illegally in India

A Nigerian national was arrested on the charge of staying illegally in the country, police said on Thursday.

The accused Wilsan Oeochukwu, 28, came to India on an education visa and was earlier staying in Vasant Kunj area of New Delhi.

He was staying in a paying guest (PG) accommodation in DLF phase 3 area of Gurgaon for the last two months from where he was arrested. Oeochukwu hails from Nigeria's Benin city, police said.

Police officer Surender Singh told IANS, "Oeochukwu was arrested from a PG in U block during a routine search operation. His visa expired in 2004 and he was staying illegally since then."

 

The accused was on Thursday produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Gagandeep Mittal and was sent to jail under judicial custody for 14 days following the court order.
