At least nine inmates died and 22 were injured following a brawl among prisoners in Luanda Central Prison (CCL), Angolan police said here Wednesday.
The incidence took place Tuesday night when a group of inmates allegedly set fire to mattresses producing smoke fatally inhaled by the nine prisoners. Seven of the nine killed have been identified, Xinhua reported citing the prison service's spokesperson Menezes Cassoma.
Of the injured, three were in serious condition, with two receiving treatment in Neves Bendinha hospital and another transferred to the Central Military Hospital, the spokesperson added.
