At least nine people were killed and three others were critically injured Thursday in a road accident in Kenya's Narok county, about 200 km southwest of here.

The accident happened along the busy Narok-Mai Mahiu highway after a minibus lost control following tyre bust and hit an oncoming bus, Xinhua quoted divisional police commander Peterson Maelo as saying.

"One of the injured who happens to be the bus driver, is in critical condition while the other two sustained minor injuries," said Maelo.

The minibus was heading to Bomet from Nairobi while the bus was going to Nairobi from Kisii in western Kenya. The injured were rushed to hospital.

Constitution Implementation Committee (CIC) Chairman Charles Nyachae described the accident as unfortunate and called on road users to develop a culture where respect takes precedence on roads.

"As a country, we need to develop a national road culture where those speeding are condemned by all of us," he said.
