Nine suspected terrorists were killed and another captured in Hotan prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Friday afternoon, the regional police authority said.

The group was identified by police July 27 during the investigation of a terrorist group. Local civilians volunteered to help the police in tracking down the suspects, according to Xinhua.

At 12.15 a.m. Friday, local people found the suspects in a corn field in Purgakqi township of Karakax county.

With the help of volunteers, officers chased the suspects to an abandoned house, where they resisted arrest by throwing explosives into the crowd. Police fired back, killing nine of them and capturing one.

No police or civilian casualties occurred during the incident.
