Nearly a week after the Bihar Cabinet approved reservation in contractual appointments made by the state government through outsourcing, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said he also favours reservation in private sector jobs.

"I favour reservation in private sector jobs. There must be reservation in private sector too," Nitish Kumar told the media here.

Ignoring criticism over his government's decision to provide reservation in contractual appointments made through private agencies, Nitish Kumar said: "There must be a debate on reservation in private sector at the national level."

There was nothing wrong in the decision of Bihar government to give reservation in contractual jobs. "It was being done as per the Reservation Act."

According to officials, there would be reservation in appointments of doctors, engineers, teachers and other professionals on contractual basis by the state government.

Nitish Kumar, who belongs to Kurmi caste, one of the powerful OBCs known for their landed property, said those opposing reservation lacked basic information.

"There are some people who speak without understanding the basic thing about reservation," he said.
