Four days after he won the assembly elections, Bihar Chief Minister on Thursday inspected dozens of ghats along the Ganges here where tens of thousands will gather during the Chhath festival next week.

He instructed officials to ensure cleanliness, safety and foolproof security for devotees during the festival, a district official said. There are 72 ghats between Nasariganj and Gaighat here.

According to officials, Nitish Kumar told officials to make sure that divers were posted at all the ghats.

Chhath is celebrated six days after Diwali. It is dedicated to the sun god, and is one of Bihar's most popular festivals.
