North Korea Wednesday fired two short-range projectiles into waters off its east coast, a day after South Korea refused a proposal to stop all military hostilities, an official said.

The projectiles were fired at 6.50 a.m. and 8 a.m., the official at the South Korean defence ministry told Xinhua.

The projectiles, which flew some 180 km, were fired from Wonsan areas, North Korea's southeastern region.

North Korea Tuesday offered a proposal to South Korea to halt all military hostilities from Friday.

South Korea refused the proposal saying that it lacked sincerity.

North Korea's national defence commission Monday proposed scrapping of this year's Ulchi Freedom Guardian military exercise between Seoul and the US to create a better atmosphere for the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

North Korea has launched a total of 97 short and medium-range projectiles and shells since Feb 21.
