Why criticise Delhi? No city in the world can guarantee hundred percent safety for women, says Ankita Kumar, daughter of Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.

"Performing in Delhi is as good or bad as any other part of the world," the 28-year-old pianist told IANS.

"No city and no government can guarantee you 100 percent safety in any part of the world. I have always performed in Delhi. I have done more then 20 performances. Performing here has always been a pleasure," she said.

"It's just that the media highlights the negative aspects and makes juicy stories, not everyone sees exactly like that," she said of Delhi, where the gang-rape of a young woman in December triggered widespread protests.

"There are incidents that happen around the world," she added.

Ankita is set to perform here Friday in a concert titled "Harmony" that celebrates music from across borders.

Asked about her father, Ankita said: "He is one of the most creative people I have ever met. He is a writer, poet and singer too. He is very artistic.

"When I got attracted to piano, both my father and my mother motivated and encouraged me."
