The government will not do anything to curb the freedom of the press in any form but the media should develop a mechanism to decide its responsibilities, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said Friday.
"Sacrifices of many leaders during freedom struggle and Emergency contributed immensely to the freedom of the press," tweeted Javadekar.
"Government will not do anything to curb the freedom of the press in any form," he said in another tweet.
"Along with press freedom comes responsibility and media needs to develop a mechanism for itself to decide its responsibilities."
Javadekar said that the website of his ministry would soon feature a "Minister's Corner" through which people would be able to interact with him directly.
