State government employees may not get study leave for higher education after 50 years of age, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh informed the assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a question by Congress member Sanjay Rattan during Question Hour, he said the government would consider fixing the age limit of 50 years for state employees to go on study leave.

Rattan said it had become a routine with the employees to take leave for higher education as soon as they are transferred to some other place.

"They have been taking study leave to evade transfers. They get the salary from the government and remain on study leave in the name of higher education," first time legislator Rattan said, urging the government to stop this practice by fixing the age limit of the employees to go on leave for higher studies.
