Norway's Ambassador to India Nils Ragnar Kamsvag on Tuesday called on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and expressed his country's keenness to invest in the state's hydroelectricity and tourism sectors.

The state has immense hydroelectricity potential of 27,436 MW -- about 25 per cent of India's total potential in the sector.

Himachal Pradesh is committed to tap this potential by involving both public and private partners, an official statement quoted Thakur as saying.

He said the state would welcome investment from Norway in hydroelectricity generation as well as renewable energy resources.

Kamsvag apprised the Chief Minister of the latest technology adopted by Norway in harnessing water energy.

Himachal Pradesh's economy is highly dependent on hydroelectricity, horticulture and tourism.

Official figures say 10,519 MW potential of Himachal has been harnessed till December 2016, which is 37.73 per cent of the total potential.
