Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir said on Saturday that he was not impressed by the cleanliness of Shimla, once the summer capital of British India.

"Since I belong to a hill state and have special attachment with Shimla. I was under the impression that it will be one of the cleanest cities," he told students while flagging off a cleanliness drive here.

"But when I saw the ground realities after joining as the acting chief justice of Himachal Pradesh in November 2013, the impression was otherwise," he added.

Speaking on the historic importance of Shimla, Justice Mir, who belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, said during the British Raj the city was one of the cleanest cities.

The cleanliness drive was organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Service Authority in association with the state government.

Justice Mir said Shimla was placed at the 90th position in a survey of 476 cities in 2014-15 to determine the level of cleanliness.

In the cleanliness drive, over 1,000 students from different government and private schools, colleges and institutes from all over the state participated.
