An NRI and his lawyer were arrested here for offering a bribe to a station house officer (SHO) of Gurgaon, police said on Friday.

Gunjan Dhingra, 40, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) and his counsel Prashant Mehndiratta, 46, were arrested here for offering a bribe to Inspector Vijay Kumar at Sadar police station.

Dhingra, a resident of Nirvana Country here, is based in Singapore, and is currently serving as a director in a multinational company in Gurgaon.

Police said that Dhingra got married to Pooja Sikri in January this year.

Sikri registered a case of domestic violence against Dhingra and some of his family members at the Sadar police station.

"Senior lawyer Mehndiratta, a resident of Delhi's Inderpuri, and Dhingra visited the Sadar police station and offered Rs.20,000 to Inspector Kumar," a senior police officer told IANS.

"They wanted the police investigation's outcome in their favour," he said.

The accused were arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code.
