The NSUI on Thursday approached the Delhi University Grievance Cell demanding a recounting of votes polled for the post of Joint Secretary in the students' body election held on Tuesday.

"We have given our complaint to the grievance cell. We are also planning to move the High Court, depending on the decision of the cell," the Congress party's student wing member Neeraj Mishra told IANS.

The NSUI supporters have been demonstrating outside the cell since Wednesday, he said.

"They (the grievance cell) have given us time till today evening. If we are not satisfied with their decision we will move the High Court," the National Students Union of India member added.

In a major comeback after five years, the NSUI on Wednesday bagged the posts of President and Vice President of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), while its arch-rival ABVP secured the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary.

The NSUI has been alleging malpractice in the counting of votes for the Joint Secretary post in which Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's Uma Shankar defeated Avinash Yadav of the NSUI by a slim margin of 342 votes.

It had been earlier announced that the NSUI candidate had won, but the result was reversed later. The NSUI has alleged rigging of votes for the post.

In the results announced on Wednesday, Rocky Tuseed and Kunal Sehrawat were elected President and Vice President, and Mahamedhaa Nagar of ABVP was announced Secretary of the DUSU for the next one year.
