A man has been arrested for raping and killing three Italian nuns in two attacks at a convent in Burundi, police said.
Christian Claude Butoyi, 33, was arrested Tuesday at his home near the convent where the nuns lived, Xinhua quoted Burundian police spokesman Hermenegilde Harimenshi as saying.
"The man admitted to have raped and killed the three nuns for 'illegally' occupying his land," he said.
The spokesman said the accused had just sold a cell phone where SMS were written in the Italian language and that belonged to one of the nuns killed in the first attack Sunday afternoon that left two nuns dead.
A man who bought the stolen phone led police to the suspect's house at Mirango, police said.
