Nvidia Corporation on Monday introduced its latest gaming graphics processor unit (GPU) which focuses on 4K visual technology and virtual reality gaming.

The GPU features 6GB of memory, 2816 CUDA cores along with DirectX12 support to drive games at 4k resolution. Nvidia has claimed that the GPU will make games more immersive as they will run faster and look better.

"Nvidia has supercharged the GTX 900-series Maxwell GPUs with DX12 features that unlock the full promise of the new API. All Maxwell GPUs support DX12, including support for conservative raster and volume tiled resources. This means developers can do more with their games on Maxwell than on any other GPU," a release from the company said.

The launch assumes significance as industry analysts are predicting that there will be more than 350 million PCs running Windows 10 within the first year of its release which gives Nvidia a lot of potential gamers. And with more than 100 developers working on DX12 games, Nvidia stands to gain the first mover's advantage.
