Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday requested Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma to take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging at the world famous Sun Temple at Konark.
In a letter, the Chief Minister said that flooding posed a threat to the heritage monument.
"The Archaeological Survey of India, which is the custodian of the temple, may be asked to take immediate steps for a proper drainage on a permanent basis," he added.
The Chief Minister said the state was keen to take up the drainage work, with ASI permission.
He said it was imperative to take steps to drain out water from the temple to ensure its longevity and to facilitate visitors to witness the glory and grandeur of the 13th-century edifice.
