In a bid to check crimes against women in Odisha, the state government on Saturday approved a move to set up seven "Investigating Units for Crime Against Women" (IUCAWs).
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the appointment of 105 police officers to deal with women related crimes, his office said in a release.
The units will be based in Bhubaneswar, Baleswar, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Mayurbhanj and Angul police districts, the release added.
The move of the state government came in response to a proposal from the union home ministry.
The release said the IUCAWs will mostly deal with crimes against women like rape, dowry murder, acid attack, trafficking and other such violence.
