Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Saturday he would observe the forthcoming Eid festival without any gaiety and joy in view of the devastating floods in the state.
"Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will celebrate Eid with highest simplicity observing no gaiety and joy for the plight of lakhs of people affected by the devastating flood in Jammu and Kashmir that has claimed precious human lives and inflicted losses to the economy and damaged property of wide-ranging nature," said an official statement.
He appealed to his supporters and well wishers to remain in their areas and share Eid, which will fall Monday, with flood sufferers by extending support of all kinds.
"The chief minister wishes that instead of visiting his residence on Eid for greeting him, people should remain associated with flood survivors providing them necessary succor on the holy occasion," the statement said.
