A man carrying 1.2 kg gold worth Rs.30.96 lakh has been arrested in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, the Border Security Force said Friday.

Acting on a specific input regarding smuggling of the precious metal from Bangladesh to India, the personnel of Khararmath border village outpost Thursday intercepted 25-year-old Arup Adhikari who was seen suspiciously moving near the village.

After a thorough search, the troopers found two gold biscuits and a gold bar in his possession.

The seized gold has been handed over to local custom office for further investigation, a BSF release said.

The South Bengal frontier of BSF has so far seized more than 56 kg gold and apprehended 35 gold smugglers in 2014.
