Only education may not help an individual gain employment, DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Minister Jitendra Singh said on Thursday while asking students to become a part of the 'Make in India' initiative.

Speaking at the Foundation Day function of Jamia Milia Islamia University, Singh said: "Education is a means to groom the inner talent to gain employment but education without skill or without talent may not help an individual to become employable," he said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi encourages healthy innovation. I appeal to the researchers to evolve 'Make in India' reforms in India's education system, which will be best suited to the Indian conditions," he added.

"Education is like a road on which this journey is to be undertaken," the minister said.

He said the university is one of the most cherished institutions in the country.

He also said: "It sometimes tends to lose its relevance partially because of the conditioned approach of the teachers themselves."

Terming social competitiveness among parents as unfortunate, he said: "Being keen to push their adolescent children into all sorts of tutorials and coaching classes without themselves being clear about what actually they expect from their children is unfortunate."
