The father of a victim of sexual exploitation who died nine years ago has sought re-investigation of the case, claiming that the five people convicted by a CBI court in February were only small fry and that other culprits were being protected.
The father of the victim, C.N. Surendran, Friday handed over a petition to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy calling for another investigation into the crime, adding that his earlier pleas to V.S. Achuthanandan, who was chief minister between 2006 and 2011, had fallen on deaf ears.
The victim's father holds that the investigators had not probed the role of the children of ministers in the previous Left government in the state in the crime. He has also alleged that a businessman and a few other "big fish" were involved in sexually exploiting his daughter.
The crime occurred in 2003. The media referred to the case as the Kiliroor sex case, after the locality in Kottayam district from where the victim hailed.
The victim had been sexually exploited on the promise of a role in films and TV serials.
She died 2004, following complications after delivering a girl child.
Ever since, the case has made headlines. The then leader of the opposition Achuthanandan publicly proclaimed that a VIP (Very Important Person) was involved in the case, and if elected to power, he would arrest this VIP.
While in power, however, Achuthanandan could not honour his word. The victim's father would rile against Achuthanandan for not doing anything to bring the guilty to book in the case.
In February this year, a CBI court in the state capital found five people guilty in this case. Surendran, the father of the victim, has maintained that those convicted are only small fry.
