Over one crore boxes of 20 kg apples each have been sold, a Himachal Pradesh government official said here on Sunday.
"A total of 25,783 trucks carrying 1.16 crore boxes of apples have been exported to the markets," a spokesperson for the state horticulture department said in a statement.
He said 7,525.760 metric tonnes of apple have been procured by Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd (HPMC) and Himfed till September 3.
The hill state is one of India's major apple-producing regions, with more than 90 percent of the produce going to the domestic market.
The horticulture department estimates that Himachal is heading for a bumper crop of 37.5 million boxes -- or 750,000 tonnes -- against the normal yield of 25 million boxes.
