Of the 630 major projects of the CPWD, 518 are running behind schedule, the union urban development ministry said Friday, adding that each work costs over Rs.5 crore.
The total cost of these projects is Rs.22,174 crore, said the ministry citing the figures made available on the website of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
"Of these 630 projects, 112 are progressing according to the schedule while 194 are delayed by over two years, 122 by one to two years, 84 are delayed by 6-12 months while another 118 are running behind the schedule by up to six months," said the ministry.
Currently, the CPWD is working on 2,583 projects at a cost of Rs.24,969 crore.
The CPWD made the status of its projects public after Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu asked the organisation to "open itself to public scrutiny and monitoring to ensure transparency".
Naidu had expressed concern over delays in the execution of various projects in a meeting.
