The Pakistan government's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has launched a project for issuing digital arms licences to check fake licences.

The project was inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak at the tribal affairs department in the capital city of Peshawar Wednesday, Dawn online reported Thursday.

"Now, the people instead of waiting for months, will receive arms licences in a few days while the sale and purchase of both arms and cartridges will also be simplified and legalised," Khattak said.

The chief minister thanked the provincial Information Technology (IT) Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai for completing this project.

He added that a police official can now track the digital licence of anyone anywhere through an SMS.
