Pakistan Rangers Tuesday again started shelling BSF positions in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district and the Indian boarder guards retaliated, police said.

"Pakistan Rangers started shelling and firing on the Border Security Force border outpost at Chandrachek near the international border in Kathua district," a senior police officer told IANS here.

"They are using mortars and other weapons to target BSF positions," he said, adding the BSF had taken retaliatory action.

Pakistan's unprovoked shelling on the international border came on a day the BSF chief D.K. Pathak visited the border to take stock of the situation following indiscriminate targeting of civilian habitations by Pakistan Rangers.

More than 10,000 residents of border villages in Samba and Kathua districts are lodged in makeshift accommodations at safer places away from their homes because of Pakistan shelling during the last three days.
