The BSF on Tuesday detained a Pakistani Hindu family from inside the Indian territory near Rapar town in the desert district of Kutch in Gujarat, officials said.
Official sources in the Border Security Force said they detained a Pakistani man identified as Heera Lal, his wife and seven children while they were trying to cross the India-Pakistan border through Kutch.
The family belongs to Wada Jo Wadio village in Tharparkar district of Pakistan's Sindh province, close to the international border.
According to the sources, Heera Lal claimed during his interrogation that he had to flee his village following a dispute with some locals.
He said he and his family might have been killed if they had not escaped.
Heera Lal admitted he was aware it was illegal to cross the international border but that he was left with no other option than to seek refuge in India.
"We are investigating the matter. Since it has been established that the family members of Heera Lal are Pakistani nationals and were picked up while crossing the border, we have decided to arrest them. Further procedure against the illegal migrants will be done according to legal provisions," a BSF official posted in Kutch said over telephone.
