Four unidentified gunmen Tuesday attacked a Pakistani airliner near Peshawar city but failed to damage it and the passenger plane coming in from Abu Dhabhi landed safely, Geo News reported.

The incident occurred at around 5.00 a.m. when a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight was to land at Sulaiman Khail near Peshawar city. It landed safely at Bacha Khan International Airport, police sources said.

The attackers, armed with hand grenades and sub machine guns (SMG), were noticed escaping from Sulaiman Khail to the tribal area of Khyber Agency, police quoted witnesses as saying.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) spokesperson, however, denied any firing incident involving a PIA flight in Peshawar.

The flight had arrived in Peshawar from Abu Dhabi and later departed for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the official added.

A Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson also denied any such incident stating that there has been no report of any firing incident on any flight at Peshawar.
