Islamabad, April 20 (IANS) Unidentified assailants Saturday set on fire an election office belonging to a political party in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, a media report said.

The office, situated in Nazimabad No.2 area, belonged to the Jamaat-e-Islami party, a party spokesman said.

He said that at the time of incident, only one worker was present inside the office, who was also "tortured by the attackers".

It was not clear whether the worker was alive or dead.

The furniture of the office was destroyed in the fire.

Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, chief of the party's Karachi unit, condemned the incident and asked the Election Commission to look into it.
