Pakistan's parliament speaker Ayaz Sadiq was disqualified on Saturday over alleged rigging in the 2013 general election and re-election ordered on his National Assembly seat, officials said.
A petition had been filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan challenging Ayaz Sadiq's victory in the 2013 elections. Khan who had been defeated by Sadiq in the constituency alleged widespread rigging, Geo TV reported.
According to reports Ayaz Sadiq will challenge the tribunal's decision in the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the media outside the tribunal premises Ali Sadiq, the son of Ayaz Sadiq, said the tribunal's decision did not state that rigging had taken place in the constituency.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, another PTI leader, praised the decision, adding that Ayaz Sadiq had the right to challenge the tribunal's ruling.
