Pakistani troops opened unprovoked firing at Indian positions near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region on Sunday, the military said. A woman was injured in the firing.

The Pakistan Army targeted "our positions in Poonch district", Indian Army spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta told IANS.

"They used small arms and automatics. Our army has retaliated using same calibre weapons," he added.

A woman, Kauser Bibi, was injured in the firing. She has been admitted to an army hospital in Poonch, another official said.

In a separate incident, 11 pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra were injured when three men hurled a grenade near the shrine, a police officer told IANS.

Two of them were nabbed while they were trying to escape in a vehicle but a third suspect escaped, the officer said.

Tensions have mounted along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan and India celebrate their Independence Day on Sunday and Monday respectively.

The Pakistan Army has resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions around August 14 and 15 since the separatist campaign in Jammu and Kashmir erupted in 1989.
