Palestine Thursday presented to the UN Security Council a draft resolution which demands an end to Israel's occupation before 2017.

At a meeting in Ramallah, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the resolution "is part of our political battle to liberate our territories and end the Israeli occupation", Xinhua reported.

Abbas noted that the Palestinians were keeping in direct contact and consultations "with our friends and our brothers" at the UN to earn enough support and consensus in the Security Council.

The resolution also includes finding a fair solution to the Palestinian refugee problem in accordance with the Arab initiative and UN Resolution 194, Abbas added.

The Palestinians want to have an international peace conference and one-year direct peace negotiations to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

They also seek to establish a state of their own in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with east Jerusalem as its capital.
