Deputy Speaker of the Delhi assembly Rakhi Birla on Friday ordered the Privileges Committee to look into BJP MLA Manjinder S. Sirsa's claim that AAP leaders had asked for a referendum in Kashmir in the House during Thursday's proceedings.

Birla termed the claim a lie and as Sirsa had 'lied' about the House proceedings to the media and also tweeted it, she said the matter was serious and ordered the Privileges Committee of the House to look into the issue.

The topic was brought up in the House by AAP MLA Alka Lamba on Friday.

Sirsa was speaking in the house during a short discussion on reservation, when Lamba, who was on a break, walked in and interrupted the discussion and shouted: "This fake nationalist must ask for the House's apology. He told media that we'd asked for referendum in Kashmir."

The matter was soon picked up by other AAP MLAs and the ongoing discussion on reservation was disrupted.

Waving her mobile phone at the Deputy Speaker, Lamba read out Sirsa's tweet: "AAP leaders are wooing Muslim votes by asking for Referendum in Kashmir! Are these leaders the agents of Pakistan?"

AAP MLAs stood up from their seats and urged the Deputy Speaker to not allow Sirsa to speak unless he apologises to the House.

When Birla asked Sirsa whether he had given this information to the media, he said: "AAP party leaders had asked for Kashmir's referendum."

At this point, the House turned chaotic and Birla termed the claim a lie and referred the matter to the Privileges Committee for investigation.
