The cargo traffic handled by Odisha's Paradip port increased by 37.79 percent to 29.04 million tonnes till the end of August this fiscal against 21.08 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year, a statement said Friday.
This was also an increase of 9.56 per cent over the target fixed for the period, the port authority said in a statement.
The port in the district of Jagatsinghpur, about 100 km from Bhubaneswar handled 5.91 tonnes of cargo during August as compared to 4.88 million tonne in the same period the previous year.
The Paradip port has retained again the second highest position in terms of cargo handled and also in terms of percentage of growth in traffic among all major ports in India till the end of Aug 31, it claimed.
