A paramilitary trooper committed suicide by shooting himself in Odisha's Rayagada district, police said Wednesday.
"The 31-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Chandrakant Pawar shot himself dead in a CRPF camp in Chandrapur area of the district, about 400 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, Tuesday evening, with his service rifle," police officer B.K. Sahu told IANS.
"The exact cause of his suicide has not yet been ascertained," Sahu said.
"Pawar was a native of Maharasatra and was engaged in anti-Maoist operations. He was under depression for some reasons for the past few days," he added.
A CRPF jawan had earlier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service gun in the state's Kandhamal district in last January.
