Paul sworn-in Nagaland governor

Meghalaya Governor Krishan Kant Paul Wednesday took over additional charge of Nagaland too following resignation of Ashwani Kumar.

He was administered the oath of office by Gauhati High Court Justice T. Vaiphei at Raj Bhavan here.

Additional State Chief Secretary Toshi Aier read out a warrant of appointment issued by the President appointing Paul as the state governor.

Paul, 66, was the Delhi Police commissioner from February 2004 to July 2007 and became a member of the Union Public Service Commission July 26, 2007. He also served in the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing.

Chief Minister T.R. Zeilang, legislative assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo, cabinet ministers and top officials were present on the occasion.

 

Ashwani Kumar was the third UPA-appointed governor to quit after his counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh - Banwari Lal Joshi and Shekhar Datt, respectively - tendered their resignations.
