A delegation of Bharat Pensioners' Samaj (BPS) Saturday met Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), and handed over a cheque as contribution to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
The amount donated by cheque was not disclosed. The delegation also dispatched two trucks full of relief material including ration and clothes to the flood affected state, a statement from the prime minister's office said.
Acknowledging the contribution made by BPS, the largest and oldest association of pensioners in India, Singh said that while the money and material contributed by them will be of immense help in the relief work, but more than that, it is the symbolic gesture of these retired officials which is like a blessing for all of us.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu & Kashmir in their hour of need, secretary general of BPS, S.C. Maheshwari informed Singh that more relief material will be handed over on behalf of these different groups of pensioners to flood victims.
Maheshwari said that BPS has also launched a campaign for organ donation and wherever needed in the rescue and relief of flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir, they would be ready to help medically also.
