The Samajwadi Party Wednesday bared its national ambitions again, saying people in the country wanted party chief Mulayam Singh to play a larger role in the central government.

Rajendra Chowdhary, Uttar Pradesh's prison minister and party spokesman, said the electorate was "completely disenchanted" with the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Accusing the Congress of pursuing anti-farmer and anti-poor policies, the spokesman slammed the BJP of trying to whip up communal passions to garner votes in the next Lok Sabha polls.

"The (Uttar Pradesh) government led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is setting examples of good governance and fair politics and people elsewhere are keen to follow the SP," Chowdhary said.
