The West Bengal government is coming up with a crematorium that will allow people to give a dignified farewell to their beloved pets.
To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.2 crore, the new facility for pets will have electrical incinerators. It will come up in the city neighbourhood of New Town.
While there are several pet cemeteries in and around the city, they are facing a space crunch as well as have made burial expensive since the demand for a spot for a pet's lasting peace has increased phenomenally. This has led many people to simply dump their dead pets in dustbins and garbage vats.
"The crematorium will provide an inexpensive option to the pet lovers to give a dignified farewell to their pets. The tendering process for it will be initiated around May after the assembly polls," West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) chairman Debashish Sen said.
