A small plane crashed in the Czech Republic Saturday, leaving the pilot killed.

The small sport plane crashed during an international aerobatics contest in Kromeriz, South Moravia, Xinhua quoted regional firefighters' spokesman Libor Netopil as saying, adding the accident caused fire and the Czech pilot died.

The pilot was a 51-year-old Czech man from central Bohemia, said police spokeswoman Simona Kysnerova, adding that the plane fell at about 11.00 a.m. in a private garden near the airfield, some 60 metres from a house.

Jan Zona, the contest organiser, said the plane was being flown by an experienced Czech pilot.

The international motor aerobatics contest was, however, terminated following the accident.
